Owego

Seat of Tioga County, southern-central New York State, USA, on the Susquehanna River, 31 km/19 mi west of Binghamton and 11km/7 mi north of the Pennsylvania border; population (1990) 4,400. It is situated in a dairy farming area, and has diverse light industry, including the manufacture of furniture and other wood products. Summer tourism plays a vital part in the town's economy. Owego was established on the site of an Iroquois village destroyed in 1779.
