Owen Sound

Port and seat of Grey County, southern Ontario, Canada, at the mouth of the Sydenham River on Owen Sound, Georgian Bay, 160 km/100 mi northwest of Toronto; population (1991) 21,700. Settled in the 1840s, it is the gateway to the Bruce Peninsula and Georgian Bay area of Lake Huron. Industries include publishing and printing, grain storage, tourism, and the manufacture of automobile parts, rubber and glass products, and electronic components.

The boyhood home of landscape painter Tom Thomson (1877-1917) is now a museum.
