Owings and Merrill Skidmore

US architectural partnership, founded in 1935 and based in Chicago. It is one of the largest and most prominent architectural firms in the world, and has pioneered modern office design. The Lever Building (1952) on Park Avenue in New York City, was an international style building designed by one of the partners, Gordon Bunshaft; this tasteful yet austerely geometrical block was widely imitated in the USA and other parts of the world. Other high-profile designs have included the Sears Tower (1971–73) in Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Worldwide Plaza in New York City (1989). It also undertakes interior design and renovations.
