Owosso

Town in Shiawassee County, southern-central Michigan, USA, on the Shiawassee River, 42 km/26 mi northeast of Lansing; population (1990) 16,300. Situated in an area specializing in market gardening and livestock rearing, it is an agricultural market centre, with grain mills and diverse light industry. Electric motors and metal and wood products are manufactured. It is the seat of John Wesley College.

Owosso was founded around 1835. Politician Thomas E Dewey was born here in 1902.
