OxfamCharity working to relieve poverty and famine worldwide. It was established in the UK in 1942 by Canon Theodore Richard Milford (1896–1987), initially to assist the starving people of Greece. Its director since 1992 has been David Bryer. The UK-based Oxfam is part of Oxfam International, an organization of similar charities worldwide, founded in 1972. While still working toward poverty and famine relief, Oxfam is involved in a number of other issues, including education, health, disaster relief, fair trade, human rights, conflict resolution, and the environment. |
