Oxyrhynchus

Egyptian village, 14 km/9 mi northwest of Beni Mazar, in the Nile Valley about 160 km/100 mi south of Cairo. Archaeologists have recovered a mass of important papyri of the Ptolemaic, Roman, and Byzantine periods from the site.
