Pérez de Montalbán, Juan (1602–1638)

Spanish dramatist. Under the influence of Lope de Vega, he wrote Orfeo 1624 in Castellan verse. His prose study Vida y purgatorio de San Patricio 1627 was the foundation of Calderón de la Barca's play El purgatorio de San Patricio. The best known of Pérez de Montalbán's plays is Los amantes de Teruel/The Lovers of Teruel 1638, based on the work by Giovanni Boccaccio.

He wrote the first biography of Lope de Vega, in 1636.
