Opera by George Bizet (libretto by E Cormon and Michel Carré), produced at the Théâtre Lyrique, Paris, on 30 September 1863. In the story, Leila, once the love of both Zurga and Nadir, returns to the men's village as a priestess of Brahma. She provokes Zurga's jealousy by seeing Nadir; Zurga orders them both to be put to death, but allows them to escape at the last moment.
