Pacasmayo

Port in the department of La Libertad, northern Peru, 100 km/62 mi northwest of Trujillo; population (2005) 26,100. Pacasmayo exports rice, minerals, sugar, cotton, and hides, and has a large cement plant.

The ancient site of Pacatnamú, containing ruins of pre-Inca cultures such as the Moche and Chavín, lies 20 km/12 mi north of Pacasmayo.
