Gibson, Bob (Robert) (1935– )

US baseball pitcher. During his 17-year career with the St Louis Cardinals (1959–75), the right-hander won 251 games. He was voted the league's Most Valuable Player award in 1968.In the same season his earned-run average (1.12) was the fourth lowest in major league history. A ferocious competitor, he was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1981. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska.
