Padlock, The

Opera by Charles Dibdin (libretto by Isaac Bickerstaffe, based on a story by Cervantes, ‘El celoso extremeño’), produced at the Drury Lane Theatre, London, on 3 October 1768. The story concerns Old Don Diego, who hopes to marry young Leonora and locks her in the house. Young Leander, however, climbs the wall and woos her.
