Padmâvatî

Opera-ballet by Albert Roussel (libretto in French by Louis Laloy), produced at the Paris Opéra on 1 June 1923. In the story, the Sultan Aladdin encircles Chitor with his army and sues for peace, but when he sees Queen Padmâvatî and is struck by her beauty, he demands her in return for not destroying the city. King Ratan-Sen offers her, so Padmâvatî stabs him before joining him on the funeral pyre.
