Page, Earle Christmas Grafton (1880-1961)

Australian politician, co-founder and leader of the Country Party 1920-39 and briefly prime minister in April 1939. He represented Australia in the British war cabinet 1941-42 and was minister of health 1949-55. GCMG 1938.

Born in New South Wales, he was educated at Sydney University and worked as a surgeon before winning the federal seat of Cowper in 1919. In 1922 he became deputy prime minister in a coalition government led by Stanley Bruce's Nationalist Party and was commerce minister in the 1934-39 Joseph Lyons government.
