Pagliughi, Lina (1907–1980)

US soprano of Italian parentage. She made her debut at Milan in 1927, as Gilda. She performed frequently at La Scala, Milan, from 1930, where she sang Rossini's Sinaida (1937) and Lucia (1947). She made her London debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1938, as Gilda. She sang widely in Italy and was heard on Italian radio as the Queen of Night, Amina, Rosina, and Stravinsky's Nightingale.
