Paige, Elaine

English actor and singer. She gained stardom as Evita (1978), after performances in Jesus Christ Superstar (1972) and Billy (1974) had established her as an actor in musicals. In 1981 she played in Cats, followed by Chess (1986), Anything Goes (1989), Piaf (1993–94), and Sunset Boulevard (1994–97). She was the Variety Club Showbusiness Personality of the Year in 1978, and was awarded the OBE in 1995.

Paige was born in Barnet, London. She was a member of the West End cast of Hair in 1969, and also appeared at Chichester Festival Theatre and at Stratford East before rising to fame in Evita.
