Paignton

Seaside resort in Devon, England, 4 km/2.5 mi southwest of Torquay; population (2001) 48,250. Oldway Mansion is used as the town's civic centre. Torbay steam railway runs from Paignton to Kingswear.

The town has the remains of the ‘bishop's palace’, once the residence of Miles Coverdale (a Protestant priest whose translation of the Bible in 1535 was the first to be printed in English).
