Paillard, Jean-François (1928- )

French conductor and musicologist. In 1953 he founded the Jean-Marie Leclair Instrumental Ensemble in 1953, which in 1959 became the Jean-François-Paillard Chamber Orchestra. He has performed French baroque music on many tours of Europe, the USA, and the Far East.

He studied at the Paris Conservatory and with Igor Markevitch at Salzburg. He wrote La musique Française classique in 1960, and recorded Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, Rameau's Les Indes Galantes, sacred music by Charpentier, and Alexander's Feast by Handel.
