Paine, John Knowles (1839-1906)| US organist, composer, and teacher. He studied at home and at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, gave organ recitals in Germany, and returned to the USA in 1861. He became instructor of music at Harvard University in 1862, assistant professor in 1872, and full professor in 1875. In 1890 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in music by Yale University. |
