gutta-percha

Juice of various tropical trees of the sapodilla family (such as the Malaysian Palaquium gutta), which can be hardened to form a flexible, rubbery substance used for electrical insulation, dentistry, and golf balls; it has now been largely replaced by synthetic materials.
