Palmer, Felicity (1944- )

English soprano. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and in Munich. She appeared in various choirs, making her concert debut in 1970. Her opera debut was made as Dido in 1971, with Kent Opera; she then sang Pamina and Elvira with the English National Opera ensemble. She made her US debut in Dallas in 1973, as Mozart's Countess. She was successful in a wide repertory, she sang Gluck's Armide and works by Messiaen and Shostakovich in concert. Her Glyndebourne debut was made in 1985, in Albert Herring; she returned in 1992 as the Countess in The Queen of Spades. In 1987 she made her debut at La Scala, Milan, in the premiere of Testi's Riccardo III. She sang at the 1988 Salzburg Festival in the Messiah. In 1992 she performed the title role in the first stage performance of Gerhard's The Duenna, at Madrid.
