Panerai, Rolando (1924- )

Italian baritone. He studied in Florence and Milan. He made his debut at Naples in 1947, as Faraone in Mosè. From 1951 he appeared at La Scala, Milan and from 1957 at Salzburg, as Luna, Germont, Ford, Guglielmo, and Rossini's Figaro. In 1955 he took part in the first stage performance of Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel, in Venice. He made his London debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1960, where he returned in 1985 and 1990, as Dulcamara.
