Panizza, Ettore (1875-1967)

Argentine conductor and composer of Italian descent. He studied at the Milan Conservatory and first appeared as conductor at Rome, in 1899. He first visited London in 1907 where he gave operas by Erlanger, Zandonai, and Massenet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Between 1916 and 1948 he appeared at La Scala, Milan. He conducted at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York from 1934 until 1942.
