Pantoja de la Cruz, Juan (1551–1608)

Spanish painter. He was the pupil of Sánchez Coello, whom he succeeded as court painter to Philip II. Like his master, he was influenced by Titian and Anthonis Mor, and painted in Coello's formal style a number of stately portraits with much highly finished detail of costume.
