Paoli

Village in Easttown and Tredyffrin townships, Pennsylvania, USA, 29 km/18 mi northwest of Philadelphia; population (1990) 5,600. Principally a commuter suburb, it also produces cement, flour, and pharmaceuticals. Its main line connection with Philadelphia is known as the ‘Paoli local’. The village was the scene of Anthony Wayne's defeat by British troops on 20 September 1777.
