Paraíba do Norte

River in northeast Brazil; length 300 km/186 mi. It rises in the state of Pernambuco, and flows through rocky and arid country to enter the Atlantic Ocean at the town of João Pessoa, capital of the state of Paraíba. The Paraíba do Norte is navigable only near its mouth.
