Paradise Valley

Nickname for a pre-World War II slum area in Detroit, Michigan, USA, east of Woodward Avenue and northeast of Downtown. Housing almost three-quarters of the city's black American population in its dilapidated units, it was notorious for its poverty and overcrowding, but also celebrated for the entertainment district that flourished around Hastings Street. Construction of the Chrysler Freeway and other roads eliminated most of the area.

Paradise Valley

Broad valley on the Yellowstone River, southwestern Montana, USA, running northwest–southeast between the Gallatin Mountains to the west and Absaroka Mountains to the east. Once a coalmining region, it is now mainly occupied by cattle and sheep ranches, especially around Livingstone. Features include Yankee Jim Canyon, Gallatin Petrified Forest, and the ghost town of Jardine. The northern gateway to Yellowstone National Park lies 3 km/2 mi south of Gardiner.

The village is also the headquarters of the Church Universal and Triumphant cult, led by Elizabeth Claire Prophet (1940– ), which owns much of the surrounding land.

Paradise Valley was once inhabited by Crow peoples. In 1864 it was the site of a gold strike.
