Paragould

Seat of Greene County, northeastern Arkansas, USA, 14 km/9 mi west of the Missouri Bootheel and 29 km/18 mi northeast of Jonesboro; population (1990) 18,500. Situated in an agricultural area, its industries include cotton ginning, flour milling, and the manufacture of animal feed, wood products, and clothing. It is the seat of Crowley's Ridge College (1964), and Crowley's Ridge State Park lies nearby. Founded in 1882, the town was named after the railway magnates James W Paramore (1830–1887) and Jay Gould.
