Paraguarí

Department in the Oriental region of southern Paraguay, bounded to the south by the Tebicuary River and to the northwest by lakes Vera, Ypoá, and Cabral; area 8,255 sq km/3,187 sq mi; population (1992) 208,500. The capital is also called Paraguarí. The department comprises fertile, forested lowlands with hills in the northeast, and is predominantly agricultural.
