Paramount| City in Los Angeles County, southwestern California, USA, across the Los Angeles River from Compton, and 14 km/9 mi southeast of downtown Los Angeles; population (1990) 47,700. Formerly a dairy farming area, it is now a largely Hispanic industrial suburb. Industries include oil refining, and the manufacture of metal and plastic products, vehicle parts, furniture, and chemicals. The city was incorporated in 1957. |
