Paramus

Borough of Bergen County, northeastern New Jersey, USA, 8 km/5 mi northeast of Paterson; population (1990) 25,100. A residential and commercial suburb of the New York city-northern New Jersey region, it has large retail malls, corporate offices, research facilities, and some industry. It is the seat of Bergen Community College (1965). Settled by the Dutch in 1666, it initially developed as a trading and distribution centre for local farm produce.
