Parazynski, Scott Edward (1961– )

US astronaut and physician. His four space shuttle flights include the Endeavour mission in April 2001 to deliver the robotic arm Canadarm 2 to the International Space Station. During the mission he undertook took two space walks to unfold the device. His flight in 2004 was postponed because of the Columbia space shuttle disaster the previous year. He has logged 1,019 hours in space, with three space walks totalling 20 hours. While studying at medical school in the 1980s, Parazynski conducted research at NASA's Ames Research Center on human fluid shifts during space flight. He was selected as an astronaut in 1992.
