Pardes, Herbert

Pardes, Herbert (1934– )

US psychiatrist and educator. He became director of the National Institutes of Mental Health (1978–84) where he focused on improving the public image of psychiatry and increasing research support for psychiatric projects. He became chairman of the department of psychiatry at Columbia University (1984) and president of the American Psychiatric Association (1989). He was born in Bronx, New York.
