Paride ed Elena

Opera by Christoph Willibald von Gluck (libretto by Raniero da Calzabigi), produced in Vienna, at the Burgtheater, on 3 November 1770. In the story, Paris finds Helen more beautiful than the gods and takes her back to Troy, but Athena warns that their joy will not last.

PARIDE ED ELENA Gluck Archiv Produktion 00289 477 5415 (2 CDs) [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] When I was in my teens and just beginning to collect LPs, there was a wide choice of Gluck recordings--but unfortunately they were all called Orfeo ed Euridice.
Mezzo Krisztina Szabo spent the summer in New York, singing Paride in Gluck's Paride ed Elena at the Caramoor Festival, followed by Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte at the Mostly Mozart Festival.
