Paris Symphonies

Set of six symphonies by Joseph Haydn commissioned by the Concert de la Loge Olympique in Paris. The six works include: no. 82 in C major (L'Ours/The Bear) (1786); no. 83 in G minor (La Poule/The Hen) (1785); no. 84 in E flat major (1786); no. 85 in B flat major (La Reine/The Queen) (1785–86); no. 86 in D major (1786); and no. 87 in A major (1785).

A spokesman for Birmingham Symphony Hall says: "It is fair to describe these three amazing years - in which Mozart poured out 12 of his greatest piano concertos and Haydn composed his six Paris symphonies - as the coming of age of these two great art forms which, more than 200 years later, still form the basis of concert programmes around the world.
