Fochabers

Town in Moray unitary authority, Scotland, on the east bank of the River Spey, 15 km/9 mi southeast of Elgin; population (2001) 1,500. Tinned food processing is the principal industry: the Baxter's factory has a visitor's centre, which is a major attraction in the town.

Fochabers was founded by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon in 1776, as the previous settlement was too close to Gordon Castle, his family seat. The castle has now been demolished. The village possesses a handsome private school building built by Alexander Mylne, an inhabitant of Fochabers.
