Park City

Winter resort in Summit and Wasatch counties, northern central Utah, USA, 29 km/18 mi southeast of Salt Lake City; population (1990) 4,500. It lies in the Wasatch Mountains at an elevation of 2,135 m/7,000 ft. The headquarters of the US ski team, it has been a major skiiing centre since the 1970s. An annual film festival affiliated with the Sundance Institute, a foundation for the development of film-making, is held in January. During the 1860s and 1870s Park City was a prosperous silver mining town.
