Parker, Alan (1944– )

English film writer and director. After starting his career in the advertising industry, Parker broke into feature films with the children's gangster musical Bugsy Malone (1976). In an eclectic career which has seen him flit from musicals to political thrillers, dramas to comedies, and work on both sides of the Atlantic, Parker has turned out a series of popular successes. These include Midnight Express (1978) and the screen adaptations Birdy (1984), Angel Heart (1987), The Commitments (1991), and Evita (1996).

His other films include Mississippi Burning (1988), Angela's Ashes (1999), and The Life of David Gale (2003).
