Parker, Samuel

Parker, Samuel (1779–1866)

US missionary and explorer. A Congregational clergyman, he went to Oregon in 1835, seeking to convert the Salish and Nez Percé Indians. After his return to New England by way of Hawaii and Cape Horn, he published Journal of an Exploring Tour Beyond the Rocky Mountains (1838). He was born in Ashfield, Massachusetts.
