Parratt, Walter (1841–1924)

British organist and composer. He had much influence upon the development of organ playing in England. From 1854–61 he was organist at St Paul's Church in Huddersfield, England, and from 1872 at Magdalen College, Oxford University. He became organist at St George's Chapel in Windsor, England, in 1882, holding the office until his death.

Parratt was born in Huddersfield. In 1892 he was knighted and made Master of the King's Music. He was also professor of music at Oxford University 1908–18 and dean of the faculty of music at London University 1916–20.
