Parrhasios (lived late 5th century BC)

Greek painter. A contemporary and rival of Zeuxis, he is ranked among the greatest Attic artists. He was born in Ephesus and active mostly in Athens.

He is said to have outrivalled Zeuxis in trompe l'oeil illusionism, and was particularly good at conveying emotion. His picture of the Athenian Demos is famous and his study of Theseus adorned the Capitol in Rome.
