Parrott, Andrew (1947– )

English conductor. He studied at Oxford where he researched early performance practice. He founded the Taverner Choir in 1973, which later became the Taverner Consort and Players. He has since been a guest conductor with the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Bach Orchestra. In 1977 he conducted Monteverdi's Vespers at the London Promenade Concerts, and in later seasons gave Bach's B minor Mass and the St Matthew Passion with authentic instruments and small choruses. In 1987 he conducted the Monteverdi Vespers at the Salzburg Festival, and the first performance of Judith Weir's A Night at the Chinese Opera. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, with Die Zauberflöte (1993).
