Parrsboro

Town in Cumberland County, northern-central Nova Scotia, Canada, on the northern shore of the Minas Basin in the Bay of Fundy, 48 km/30 mi south of Amherst; population (1991) 1,600. The largest community on the basin, it has coal and lumber shipping, fishing, and tourist industries. Visitors come to see the bay's spectacular high tides, and to collect semi-precious zeolites. Parrsboro is also a geological and palaeontological research centre in a region rich in plant fossils and prehistoric animal bones.
