Parry, William Edward

Parry, William Edward (1790–1855)

English admiral and Arctic explorer. He made detailed charts during explorations of the Northwest Passage (the sea route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans) 1819–20, 1821–23, and 1824–25. Knighted 1829.

He made an attempt to reach the North Pole 1827. The Parry Islands, Northwest Territories, Canada, are named after him.
