Pasir Gudang

Port in Johor state, Peninsular Malaysia, 26 km/16 mi east of Johor Bahru; population (1991) 28,200. The port was opened in 1977, with a second phase being completed in 1985. The port can handle 6 million tonnes of cargo a year, and is the gateway for the agro-industrial produce of southern Malaysia, including palm oil, rubber, and timber.

Pasir Gudang comprises two ocean wharves, and coastal, bulk cargo, and container wharves in the dry cargo zone; there is a twin-berth oil jetty in the liquid cargo zone. There are areas of 22 ha/55 acres and 14 ha/35 acres for the storage of liquid and bulk cargo, respectively, and a warehouse covering 180,000 sq m/1,937,500 sq ft.
