patent rolls

In England, records of royal grants of privileges or office made under the Great Seal from 1201. Most important administrative acts were recorded in this way, but by the later middle ages patent rolls were used only for more formal decisions, such as the creation of peerages or royal appointments. They are still maintained but patents for inventions are held by the Post Office.

It is also an old one for it was mentioned in the Patent Rolls in 1325 and the Kings Norton Map of 1894 indicates a 'Spring Hasel Well' just across the Rea from Hazelwell Lane and in what is now Hazelwell Playing FieldIt was perhaps a separate manor from the later Middle Ages, and its hall was rebuilt by the Cartland family, thus Cartland Road, and is now the Hazelwell pub.
