Paton, Joseph Noel

    0.02 sec.

Paton, Joseph Noel (1821–1901)

Scottish painter. Taking his subjects largely from legend and history, he painted in a detailed style that was close to the approach of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (Millais was a lifelong friend).

He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1856 to 1883. One of his most popular works was The Fairy Raid (1867; Glasgow City Art Gallery). He also designed a rose window for Dunfermline Abbey and achieved some success as a poet.
