Patou, Jean (1880–1936)

French clothes designer. He opened a fashion house in 1919 and was an overnight success. His swimsuits and innovative designs were popular in the 1920s and he dominated both the couture and the ready-to-wear sectors of the fashion world until his death. He had a great influence on the designers he employed, many of whom went on to make names for themselves.

He created the perfume Joy 1926.
