Pawhuska

Seat of Osage County and the administrative capital of the Osage nation, northeastern Oklahoma, USA, 32 km/20 mi southwest of Bartlesville; population (1990) 3,800. The Osage reservation is coextensive with Osage County, and the nation's council conducts government business at the Osage Agency in the town. Pawhuska is a trading centre for local oil, natural gas, livestock, and agricultural produce. It was named for a 19th-century Osage chief.
