Pawlikowski, Pawel (1957– )

Polish-born film director and screenwriter, based in the UK from 1977. His films, both documentaries and fiction, explore and often satirize modern social and cultural issues. He wrote and directed the feature films Last Resort (2000) and My Summer of Love (2004), both of which won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh Festival. Last Resort also won Pawlikowski a BAFTA award for best newcomer to British cinema.

Other films, produced by the BBC for television, include the documentaries Dostoyevsky's Travels (1991), Serbian Epics (1992), and Vaclav Havel (1989); the feature film The Stringer (1998); and the short film Twockers (1998).

He taught at the London Film School and National Film and Television School and became a Creative Arts Fellow at Oxford Brookes University in 2004.
