Peachtree Creek

Tributary of the Chattahoochee River, near Atlanta in northern Georgia. Peachtree Creek has two parts, the North and South Forks. A battle was fought along its banks on 20 July 1864, as Confederate forces tried in vain to break the Union Army's siege of Atlanta.

Peachtree Creek's North Fork rises south of Norcross, in Gwinnett County, and flows southwest through through the Peachtree Hills residential district of Atlanta. The South Fork rises near Tucker, in De Kalb County, flows west-southwest through Emory, and joins the North Fork within the Atlanta city limits. The Peachtree Trail, which enters the area from Toccoa, ran parallel the creek as far as its junction with the Chattahoochee; in the late 18th century, this confluence was the site of the settlement of Standing Peachtree.
